Many of my friends who are always complaining about how fat they are, how they should start exercising but they don't. & the complaining goes on and on, with nothing being done. Everyone knows exercise is good for everyone, but many just can't seem to make themselves do it. What lacking is the motivation and determination. Motivation is what get you started, Determination keeps you going.
Here are some tips on how to go into exercising routine if you have yet to start.
- Don't ever say you can't
- Nothing is impossible, you just have to believe you can. Don't make me pour out 100 inspiring stories to make you feel guilty of what you said. You definitely can, it's only whether you want, or not.
- Get Started!
- The biggest step to getting motivated, is to Get Started. How do you even go anywhere without a start point? Get out of your comfort zone. You aren't getting anywhere just saying or staying at where you are. So get moving! There is always a first time.
- Find a Friend
- If you find it hard to exercise alone, pull a friend along. Your friend can be a total newbie, both of you can learn together. Or you can find a friend who work-out frequently and is willing to guide you along the way.
- Set rules with your friend, eg. if any one of you skipped a scheduled workout day for more than 3 times, there will be a penalty.
- Get the gears
- Invest in a good pair of sports shoe, sports bra or whatever. When you love what you wear, you are going to be wearing it more often. & of course you aren't going to let it be thrown in a corner. Flaunt it at the gym or in the park. Put it to good use, perspire in it.
- Start Slow
- Start by marking on your calendar a specific day on every week as your 'Exercise day'. Do Not accept any excuses from yourself to skip any day. If your friends ask you out on that day, tell them you are booked, or get them to join you.
- Book more days like twice or thrice a week after you have made weekly exercise day a habit. It's another step to getting out of your comfort zone.
- Do Not fear Failure!
- Before, I never dared to step into a Fitness Centre. Simply because I am totally clueless on how to use the machines or afraid of being mocked at. Like I said, there is always a first time!
- What you can do, is sign up for a trial session at any Fitness Centre where there are personal trainers to guide you. You will be introduced to the machines and some fitness basics from the professionals.
- Alternatively, you can ask a friend who work-out regularly to guide you.
- Do research online on how to correctly work towards your goal.
- Make records and watch your body changes through time and effort
- You are definitely going to see results if you're doing it correctly. Take before-after photos, record down your weight or whatever in a logbook. It will please you, and then you'll realize all the pain you've gone through are all worthwhile.
- In fact after all these, you are going to enjoy the 'pain'. Trust me.
- Remember your successes
- That's not the end, there is no end because you are going to love what you're doing! Remember your successes, you are going to create more of them. & when you look back, there will be no regrets but satisfaction.
On healthy eating...
When I go out and choose healthier food to eat, some friends say I'm on a diet.
So what do they mean by diet? -to eat what you usually don't and cut down on the amount of food you usually take, for a short period of time to get to your ideal weight or size. Then you stop and go back to the usuals.
Which is ineffective if you're looking for long term results. & it is not healthy.
No... My diet plans always fail in fact. Hahahah because I love food too much. but I have learned to go for healthier choices and even though sometimes I do cheat a little...... :P
Here's how you can start to change your usual diet to a healthier one.
- Know that Healthy food are not awful!!
- Many actually have the thinking that healthy food are all fruits and vegetables, and no healthy food taste good! That is so WRONG! It is true that fruits and greens are healthy, but not all of them are. & if you categorize healthy food under the non-yummy food, you are simply not trying enough good food!!
- Stop being bias against healthy food. They can be very tasty and are very beneficial for your body.
- Clean out your kitchen
- Do you have many tidbits, snacks and soda in your kitchen? Clear them out! Not into your stomach definitely. You're not going to empty them into the bin too.. So bring them to your school or office. This sounds pretty evil but you're just going to look like a nice person who offer your friends and colleagues food. Hahaha...
- Go on healthy shopping
- Now that your fridge and drawers are empty, it's time to fill them up with healthy snacks. My favourite is Cherry Tomatoes :) Get some nuts, yogurt, milk, eggs or whatever. Do some research online on what is good for you. You can ignore those that you hate. Haha..
- Do Not go to the sweets or snack sections! Just don't go and you won't be tempted to get them.
- Once in awhile, its okay to satisfy your craving for unhealthy food...
- You don't have to eliminate them out of your life entirely, of course if you can that'll be good. But if you can't bear to, then just minimize the intake.
- If you had a sinful meal today, make it up by getting rid of them the next day. Detox tea and intense exercises. Don't let the toxins stay in your body for more than three days, once they get into your fats cells and turned into stored fats, it'll be harder for you to release them.
- Say NO to soft drinks!
- I never had any problem with this because I never liked carbonated drinks. They are nothing good to you. You can try asking Google how to stop xD
- Water is always the better choice, have lots of water! Slice some lemons and add them into your ice water jar, easy and aid in weight loss & digestion. Too many benefits.
Being healthy makes one look good and feel good. You only live once, so make the best out of it.
I've said my piece. The body is yours, take responsibility in taking good care of it. Choose what is best for yourself.
